Game Review:

My first life was unfortunately a short one being killed within 5 seconds of deployment and my second life wasn’t much longer. For some reason SOE thought the best way to teach players how the game works was to put them directly into a active combat zone. After a few more respawns and a few more deaths I got the basics of what was going on and managed to get to a safe area where I could finally figure out what the hell I was doing.

The controls are very similar to any other FPS you might have played, but the UI is very overwhelming with lots of icons all over the screen. I couldn’t tell if the icons were pointing out allies or enemies so I had a few incidences of friendly-fire in the beginning, but soon figured things out.

After about an hour of examining the classes, item shop, upgrades, the map and everything else, I got a pretty good feel for the game and was on my way.

For those wondering why I skipped character creation it’s because there is none. You’re character is covered in armor, which can be customized in-game via the item shop and unlocks, so there’s really no reason to have a character creation.

Planetside 2 is pretty much exactly what you would think it is. Take any FPS game, increase the map size 100 time, add a few thousands players and make it persistent and that pretty much sums up the game. Outposts and command centers are scattered around the map allowing factions to control them and gain resources from them, although this system seems to be flawed.

Game Review:

Twelve years is a long time to wait for a game, but the Diablo faithful have had to do just that since developer Blizzard released Diablo II in 2000. But that doesn’t really matter all that much, because the story merely serves as a way to tie together the various dungeons and quests in your hunt for gear. Quality voice acting and some truly incredible cut-scenes between Acts help flesh out the universe, but past the first playthrough it’s not really anything worth paying attention to.

DragonFable is a 2D fantasy RPG with turn based battles. It is the sequel to AdventureQuest and has a similar art style to that found in AQ. DragonFable supports up to 3v3 battles where players fight alongside NPC allies and pets. Weekly updates and a large variety of quests and equipment to obtain keep players coming back for more.

DragonFable is the sequel to AdventureQuest and has many improved gameplay features. Like other Artix games, DragonFable has turn based combat but supports up to 3v3 battles. While still a single player game, the ability to explore the game world rather than simply move from screen to screen make DragonFable feel much more like a complete RPG experience. The art style is similar to that of its predecessors but looks much sharper and with the ability to enter full screen mode, you may even forget you’re playing a web based game. Since this is a single player game, there is a greater emphasis on story which is welcome. The casual and at times comedic dialogue helps keep the game interesting. There are three classes to chose from during character creation with more available as players advance in level. The starting classes are:
Fighter - A basic melee class with speciality in closed range combat. Fighters wear heavy armor and have skills that focus on increasing both physical and elemental resistance.
Mage - The basic magic user. Mages are armed with staffs but rely on elemental spells to defeat their enemies.
Rogue – Like Fighters, Rogues start out as mainly using close ranged attacks but possess ninja like skills such as double attack and smoke screen.

Game Review:

MechQuest is a 2D Sci-Fi browser MMORPG with turn based combat. Players take on the role of mecha pilots in training who are on their way to attend the prestigious G.E.A.R.S. University. Combat takes place on separate screens to which players are instantly teleported when they enter a battle. Fight against AI controlled mechs and aliens or battle other players to earn experience, credits and prestiege!

MechQuest is set 5,0oo years before the events of Artix’s first online hit AdventureQuest. The two games are similar in many ways, battles take place in a classic turn-based fashion between the player and AI controlled opponents. Players start with a simple mech with a single weapon but can purchase new mech types and weapons with credits earned in battle. Some mechs preform better with melee weapons while others are suited for long ranged combat. The number of weapon types is extensive covering everything from machine guns, rockets, lasers, to melee power swords. By winning battles, players earn credits (in-game currency) and experience but many of the most most powerful mech and weapons must be purchased with ‘novas'. Novas can only be obtained with real cash or by completing offers On Artix’s official site. By gaining experience and leveling up, players are given attribute points which can be used to raise six stats:
Luck - Effects the chance of critical hits.
Reflex - Increases dodge rate and change of going first in battle.
Power - Increases damage inflicted on opponents.
Accuracy - Increasing the chance of your attacks hitting an opponent.
Efficiency - lowers the amount of energy a mecha uses to attack.
Perception - lowers the amount of damage taken from a hit.

Game Review:

EpicDuel is a 2D browser based MMORPG with a futuristic setting. Choose from one of the three classes and battle against other players in 1v1 and 2v2 duels. Develop your character’s skills and stats as you level, and purchase new weapons. Players can also challenge NPCs to battles.

EpicDuel is Artix Entertainment’s most PvP oriented RPG to date. The game is set in the distant future on a world known as Delta V. The art style and turn based combat are in the same fashion as previous BattleOn games, but this time PvP takes center stake. Players will be able to jump into 1v1 or 2v2 duels using the game’s auto arrange system from any map. There are some NPCs scattered around the world which players can challenge, but this servers as a minor distraction. Achievements, player run factions (guilds), and player housing add some replay value, but this is definitely one of those games best enjoyed in short busts.

Mercenary – Powerful, but slow fighters capable of dealing heavy damage. Mercenaries use clubs and other mainly blunt melee weapons. They are comparable to classic RPG Warriors.
Bounty Hunter - Striking a balance between skills and physical attacks, Bounty Hunters make use of mounted wrist blades and other piercing weapons. They are the Rogues of EpicDuel.
Tech Mage - Equipped with magical staffs, Tech Mages are the wizards of EpicDuel. They possess energy based skills.

The object of the game is to breed and raise many Dragons to earn Gold, with which you can buy more food to feed more dragons to get more gold! Pretty basic.

Facebook's popular puzzle matching game, Bubble Witch Saga, arrived on iOS devices a little over a week ago, so I apologize if this review comes a little late. What can I say, it was that addicting. I just couldn't put it down.
Having amassed over 40 million players on Facebook, you really don't need me to tell you how fun Bubble Witch Saga is. The sheer number speaks for itself. But how does the Facebook game translate to iOS devices?
To put it simply, quite nicely. Gameplay wise, Bubble Witch Saga is fairly similar to its Facebook counterpart. The concept of the game has you match at least three of the same colored orbs to make them disappear or fall into cauldrons worth points. As with most games like this, your aim is to match the colors closest to the top so the orbs below can fall without having to waste a shot. The simple mechanic of matching same colored orbs to another lends itself perfectly to iOS devices.

Game Review:

First thing first: as soon as this game loads, you just get a huge Zynga feeling. This game follows Zynga’s formula so well, and that is a great thing, because so far, Zynga has developed the best city-building title on Facebook. Empires & Allies starts out slowly, but quickly gains momentum and soon you’ll be lost in all of the things that you need to accomplish. In this sense, energy is very sparse, you never really have enough to complete what you need to.

In Empires & Allies, there are different types of buildings you can build. The first one you get introduced to are military buildings. You are asked to complete building a barracks in order to start producing military units to defend your island with. Afterwards, you can choose to build a shipyard or a hanger to start building your Navy and Air Forces. Then, there are community buildings, and you’re required to build a Parliament. Community buildings increase your maximum population. To increase your current population, you have to build housing units and you can continue building those until you reach your maximum population and then you’ll have to build more community buildings. CityVille players should be accustomed to this by now. Then there are industry buildings, which include farms, lumber mills, and oil wells that produce resources that you will need for your military.

Of course, with the city-building aspect, you can decorate your military base with decorations and build roads. When you produce new units for your military, these can be placed around your city. As long as they are close to the buildings in your base, those buildings will be protected against attacks by enemy empires. Other things add more strategy, such as the world embassy, which protects your entire city for 18 hours. Once this time runs out, you’ll have to come back to renew it for another 18 hours, or for each friend you hire, the duration will be increased by 18 hours.

However, if players want city-building, play CityVille, because Empires & Allies is all about the war campaign. Occasionally, empires will attack your nation and you will have to fight them off, unless you have the above-named protections.  The game also has a storyline and you are tasked with defeating enemy generals of your main enemy. The battles are carried out in a traditional turn-based RPG style. You select which of your units will be fighting the units of the enemy. Each unit has a health bar above its head. You select one of your units, attack one enemy unit, and then it becomes the enemy’s turn to attack. You continue doing this back and forth until one side wins. It’s a very traditional system and it works really well.

Overall, Empires & Allies is a really great social game and one of Zynga’s best. If this game is a sign of things to come on Facebook, the future of social gaming looks really good. I would give this game an A.

Developers don't charge you for the game, but there is premium membership, you can buy gifts for your friends or buy in game gold, the currency which you can use to buy planes and other stuff which is important during the fights.

Game Review:

I’m a hardcore arcade-style fighting game fan and I had been playing good old-school fashioned fighting games like Street Figher and the King of Fighters franchise when I was a kid. Although I have embraced HD gaming consoles now, playing fighting games like Tekken and Soul Calibur still can offer me thrilling gameplay experiences.

However, I have never played any games of the same genre on Facebook. Primarily due to technical issues, it is impossible for browser games to attain the same level of those console games featuring nearly photo-realistic graphics and complex gameplay. But I still wish I could play a “fighting-esque” game where I can at least pick my own moves, rather than those boring games in which fight is unusually done by one click. After finally getting my hands on the Soul Crash beta release, I realized that finally there is a game that pushes the limits of the Facebook platform.

Game Review:

Social Wars is a Facebook take on a RTS (real-time strategy) game that places you in command of Earth’s defenses during an alien invasion. There is a single player campaign and PvP (player versus player) elements that offer more of a mixed bag than RTS games who only specialize in one type of gameplay or the other. Social Wars won’t be taking over as any hardcore RTS gamer’s favorite, but it does have most of the features that are seen in common games from the genre.
Facebook has become famous or infamous, depending on how you see it, for its building simulation games. Everyone has heard of Farmville and Cityville, and these games have been remade with many different skins. However, that type of gameplay was seen much earlier in RTS games where players had to build up a base or structure over time using resources. The only factor that separated the two genres of games was the combat aspect of RTS games. That is exactly what keeps Social Wars from just being another Farmville remake.
